I've Done Everything For You, rick springfield, Sammy Hagar

I’ve Done Everything for You [ Rick Springfield / Sammy Hagar ] From the Vault … Feb. 19, 2012 As a follow up to “Jessie’s Girl,” Rick Springfield decided to release a cover of Sammy Hagar’s “I’ve Done Everything For You.” Obvious a great career decision as he’s had a string of hits … or not.

Against All Odds, Postal Service, Phil Collins

Against All Odds [ Postal Service / Phil Collins ] Better to include this cover on UnderCover with Crut late, than never … just like the real postal service? Get it? Because the mail is slow! Don’t go postal on me! It’s a joke!

the pretender, cherri bomb, Foo Fighters, cover song

The Pretender [ Cherri Bomb / Foo Fighters ] The fact that I can’t think of anything to write about Cherri Bomb except to point out that they’re an all girl group, just shows how sexist America is. There’s a glass ceiling for women rockers, that no matter how hard they work and how talented they are, they can do little more than press their bare breasts against that glass. No if you’ll excuse me I need to go to the store and buy tissues and hand lotion.

Land of Confusion [ Disturbed / Genesis ] This is a song with a message. The message being of the original Genesis version is that puppets are friggin scary. The Disturbed versions message is Todd McFarlane should stick to comics, not animation.

Just Dance, lady gaga, PS22, Langley School Music Project

Just Dance [ PS22 / Lady Gaga ] It’s like Langley School Music Project but for the 90’s. Except it’s not the 90’s anymore is it. Shut up. I’m not old. You’re old. So there.

every rose has its thorn, miley cyrus, Poison, bret michaels

Every Rose Has It’s Thorn [Miley Cyrus / Poison] From the vault … Aug. 12, 2012 I feel sorry for the youth of today. I really do. Growing up we had a few songs that we’d call guilty pleasures. Almost every song on the radio now qualifies as a guilty pleasure. We had great bands like Poison. They have crappy Disney teen junk like Miley Cyrus covering Poison. And I say this in spite of Miley being of legal consenting age now, so you know I mean it.

we found love, Jessie J, rhianna, Price tag, bob Dylan

We Found Love ( Jessie J / Rhianna ) Rhianna’s become the Bob Dylan of her generation. No she’s not a brilliant singer song writer, although she does beat Dylan in the looks department. But she’s like Dylan in that everyone seems to want to cover her. Here Jessie J of “Price Tag” fame gives her a whirl.

blurred lines, queens of the stone age, robin thicke, alan thicke, Growing Pains

Blurred Lines ( Queens of the Stone Age / Robin Thicke ) I don’t care how famous Robin Thicke gets, he’ll always be a second rate song writer compared to his father, whom you may know better as Tom Seaver. Yup, Alan Thick wrote the theme to Growing Pains. Everybody let’s sing it together. “Show me that smile again …

I Will Always Love You, Josh Weathers, Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston

I Will Always Love You ( Josh Weathers / Dolly Parton ) Yes, I know it sounds like Whitney’s take on the song, but it’s a dude. And he’s AMAZBALLS!

Space Oddity, Chris Hadfield, david bowie, nasa, ISS

Space Oddity [Chris Hadfield / David Bowie] From the Vault … May 13, 2013 Normally, I try to only post covers done by musicians. Not just some guy with a YouTube channel. However this cover of David Bowie’s Space Oddity was recorded on the International Space Station by Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield. I’m impressed, but I’m going to wait for the follow up Bowie cover, Life on Mars.

Falling Down, Scarlett Johansson, tom waits

Falling Down [ Scarlett Johansson / Tom Waits ] Every actor and actress secretly wants a music career, some are sucessful like … uh … Eddie Murphy. Most are not. Here ScarJo makes a pretty decent attempt with an entire album of Tom Waits covers.

Lez Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin, In My Time Of Dying

In My Time Of Dying [ Lez Zeppelin / Led Zeppelin ] I always wanted to see this band in person. Made plans with a friend to see them next time they came around this way. It’s not often I can coax one of my friends into seeing one of my goofy cover bands. I lost that friend this weekend, and we never got to see them. So this one’s for her.

Cover Song, Cover, Alex Goot, fun., tiffany alvord, Luke Conard

We Are Young [Alex Goot, Tiffany Alvord, Luke Conard / fun.] From the vault … August 12, 2012 Tonight … we are young, so lets set the world on fire. At which point we’ll be incinerated and our age will no longer matter. Sounds like fun.! Here’s Alex Goot with help from Tiffany Alvord and Luke Conrad covering the typographical nightmarishly named fun..

Love Rollercoaster [Red Hot Chili Peppers / Ohio Players] From the vault … Jul 2, 2012 The Academy Awards occasionally overlooks cinematic brilliance. Such was the case with “Beavis and Butthead Do America.” It had all sorts of cool stuff, including one dude who looked and sounded suspiciously like Hank Hill. There was also this Ohio Players cover by the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the soundtrack, back when movie soundtracks used to mean something.

Your Momma Don't Dance, poison, loggins and messina, kenny loggins, Cover song, cover, winnie the pooh

Your Momma Don’t Dance [ Poison / Loggins & Messina ] Yeah, it’s a hair metal standard. But it’s also a song originally by Loggins and Messina. Yeah, Loggins … as in Kenny Loggins the guy who put out an entire album of Winnie the Pooh music. I wonder how Winnie the Pooh would look in Spandex and Leather.

Party Hard, Grouplove, andrew w.k.

Party Hard [ Grouplove / Andrew W.K.] Has Andrew W.K. every written a song that wasn’t about partying? Maybe one that was just about a minor celebration? Anyway from the Onion’s Undercover series, here is Grouplove covering Party Hard.

Under The Bridge, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The King

Under the Bridge [The King / Red Hot Chili Peppers] Elvis covering the RHCP? No, not exactly. It’s an Elvis impersonator (named James Brown, because that’s not confusing) covering the Red Hot Chili Peppers’s “Under The Bridge."

Sunday, August 4, 2013

Du Hast, viva vox choir, Rammstein

Du Hast [ Viva Vox Chior / Rammstein ] From the vault … July 12, 2011 Wow. It’s not every day you hear a cover of Rammstein. In fact, I’ve never heard one. And this one by Viva Vox Choir is acapella. Just wow. To quote one youtube commenter “This is the greatest thing ever made. I’m going to make babies to this song and name them all after members of this choir."

Miss May I, jay-z, run this town, Cover, Cover song, Rodney King

Run This Town [Miss May I / Jay-Z] From the Vault … April 3, 2012 From the epic “Punk Goes …" series, here’s a screamo cover of Jay-Z by Miss May I. Wait, wait! Wait! … Screamo? Did I just invent a word? It’s like Screaming + Emo. I always wanted to invent a word. It’s like being famous or something. Damnit. There’s already a wikipedia entry for it and everything. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, if you haven’t heard of Miss May I, looks like the odds are you will in the very near future. They have a run on this years main stage of the Warped Tour and were featured on the Saw IV soundtrack. In my opinion Saw IV was the second best of the Saw movies, with I being first, V being third, III being fourth and II being 5th. Since discovering this band (a week ago) I’ve been very impressed with the lyrics rivaling the writing Lennon/McCartney, commanding stage presence to rival Jagger and screaming ability to rival Rodney King. Also the lead singer’s mom reads this blog and she’s really hot. So … that may have influenced my otherwise usually unbiased review.

Electric Avenue, Skindred, Eddy Grant, Cover, coversong

Electric Avenue - [Skindred / Eddy Grant] I have rocked down to Electric Avenue, I proceeded to take it higher. I am now awaiting further instruction.

Ain't No Sunshine, michael jackson, Bill withers, Jackson Five, cover, cover song

Ain’t No Sunshine [Micheal Jackson / Bill Withers] I saw this song at #3 on someone’s list of 100 greatest covers and I’m all like … what the hell? How have I never heard this before? And then I wondered how wacko Jacko was when he recorded this. He was Jackson .Five sane at this recording. So that’s a good thing.
