Gimmie Shelter

Stole this one frome Gizmodo :

"This [Rolling Stones'] Gimmie Shelter cover was made by Playing for Change—the amazing people who put together the tear-jerking cover of Stand By Me back in 2009.

Like Stand By Me and the rest of that original album, Gimme Shelter was recorded by unknown artists in a virtual worldwide street studio all around the world. It all starts with the base percussion, which is recorded first and sets the rhythm to it all, played by Greg Ellis in Hollywood. Then, the track flies all over the world, where other artists use it to play their own parts of the song.

There's Roberto Luti in Italy on steel guitar, Washboard Chaz in New Orleans adding more percussion and then Roselyn Williams fires up her amazing voice to sign Jaggers' lyrics from Kingston, Jamaica. From there, it just keeps getting better and better. At the end of the process, those parts get remixed in a central studio to make the cover you are listening to now.

Go learn more about Playing For Change's new album and how you can help their cause here."

Stripped

Depeche Mode's Stripped, on title alone it sounds promising, but in actuality is a pretty terrible song to erotically remove your clothing too. It's hard to dance too, and that 80's synth is kinda distracting. Rammstein's cover of the song is much much better for the previously mentioned activity. Yeah, I can totally see some hot German goth type chick with a spiked collar hanging by her ankles from the pole while ... sorry. I got distracted.

Party In The USA

A good friend one told me you can't make a song with bad lyrics good, just by covering it. I pointed to Rob Zombie's cover of I'm Your Boogie Man as proof to the counter. Here's another though. From last night's episode, Here is (Jimmy Fallon as) Neil Young with Crosby and Nash covering ... yes, Miley Cyrus. And it's kind of amazing.

If You Could Only See

I love Tonic. In my book one of the most underrated bands in the Alt-Rock era. I know, you'll question my entire musical taste from now on but ... I still think they're awesome. Here's Boyce Avenue covering one of thier best known songs.

Unbeliveable

Somehow EMF's Unbeliveable as a cover, done here by The Last Royals, seems to lack something. Not that it's a bad version it's just missing ... Andrew Dice Clay! I miss that man. He was so warm and kind. No? Who am I thinking of then? Oh yeah, Buddy Hackett.

Download this cover for free from the Last Royals website as well as their covers of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and OMD's "If You Leave."

Friday

Oh dear god, Katy Perry, who knew you could sink so low? Actually I'm guessing that it's done tounge in cheek since she has to count the number of "fun's" on her fingers.

The Beautiful Ones

Back in the day when UnderCover with Crut was a real radio show (Okay, it was on an AM based on a college station but it was still real damnit), my boss man was known as the Shiv. He went on to work for a real radio station, WOXY. Long story short. I caught this little gem today via his FaceBook post. "My Brightest Diamond played live at WOXY in 2007 and did a cover of Prince's "The Beautiful Ones" that damn near made me cry in the studio. We were never legally allowed to post it for download. Grab it before Prince's legal team takes down [the] site!"
