Use Somebody [Cover to Cover]

Okay, in this humble bloggers opinion, the most over covered song of the year was the Kings of Leon song "Use Somebody" so instead of subjecting you to a ton of posts, here's one jam pack wizz wham bam Cover To Cover post. I highly recommend NOT listening to all of them because lets face it, no one can stand to listen to this song eight times in a row. Then again, it's the week between Christmas and New Years and you're likely at work pretending to be productive, so maybe it would be a good use of your time. Wait, I know! Set them all off in 10 second intervals and it'll be like it's being sung in a round. Remember that from elementary school?

Matisyahu - Hasidic Jew and Reggae star, listen to this one if you're Jewish or know someone Jewish or are a Regaee star or know a Reggae star.

Nick Jonas and the Administration - Listen to this one if you're a female under the age of 16 or if you happen to be brain dead.

The Sing Off Contestants - Acapella, with a wide variety of vocals. Listen to this one if you've ever had sex with a peacock.

Ultrabeat - The "Club Cover". If you're wearing glittery pants at this very minute, listen to it.

Paramore - Chick driven rock. Listen to this one if you have a thing for redheads.

Pixie Lott - Haunting country folky styling here. If you dig that sort of thing, listen to this one

Bat For Lashes - Someone once described this genre to me as "Angry Cooter Music." If your cooter is angry, you've found your cover!

Cornell Chordials - More Acapella. Listen to this one if you haven't listened to any others, cause there are no more to choose from.

Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad [Jamey Johnson / Meatloaf]

One thing that has always surprised me, is the sheer lack of MeatLoaf covers. With a career spanning over 30 years, I've never found any ... until today.

Here's Jamey Johnson, turning the Mr. Loaf's classic into a syrupy, twangy boatload of Waylon Jennings-ish classic country. Download for free.

Baby [Neon Trees / Justin Bieber]

If you play Justin Bieber songs backwards, you can hear messages from Satan. Even worse, if you play them forwards you hear Justin Bieber.

If you play Neon Trees, you hear a pretty cool cover.

Christmas With The Devil [12 Days Of Covers]

Last year Coverville put together a free tribute album to the greatest rock band never to actually exist, Spinal Tap (Also nominated for that title: The Lone Rangers, Wyld StallynsScrantonicity and Jessie and the Rippers).

Included in that album was cover of "Christmas with the Devil" by John Dissed. It's part of the 12 Days of Covers here at Under Cover with Crut.

You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch [12 Days Of Covers]

Can't do a Christmas cover compilation with out throwing in some a capella. Wait, I did? Shazbot! Oh well, to late to turn back now I've already typed several words to this blog entry so I can't stop the momentum now.

Despite popular belief, the original of this song was not sung by the cartoon's narrator, Boris Karloff (a.k.a. Frankenstein) but rather by Thurl Ravenscroft (a.k.a. Tony the Tiger). Here's it's sung by Rockapella (a.k.a. The group from the Where in the World is Carmen San Diego).

Pure Imagination & I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas (Blenders / Gene Wilder & Irving Berlin) 12 Days Of Covers

"Pure Imagination" was sung in the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by Gene Wilder. A Jewish Irving Berlin penned "White Christmas" for Bing Crosby only to have it become the number one selling single of all time. Here acapella group the Blenders ... uh ... blend the two into what is easily my favorite Christmas Cover.

Holiday in Cambodia [12 Days Of Covers]

Sure, I could pick almost any track from the album "Silent Nightclub" by Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine. But I picked the Dead Kennedys' cover because that's how I roll. Also I couldn't find any other song with a decent playable version. I actually wanted the Barking Dogs cover, but ... oh well.

Fairytale of New York [12 Days of Covers]

The number one Christmas song of all time? White Christmas of course! The number one Christmas song in the U.K.? Fairytale of New York, which I'm guessing you've never heard of. Maybe Americans' don't like the words "slut," "faggot," and "ass" in thier holiday songs.

Originally by Irish group the Pogues and British singer Kirsty MacColl, the original sounds more irish drinking song than holiday cheer, and that pretty much fits the lyrics too.

Here's a free download of Third Eye Blind covering it.
