Friday [Fake Number / Rebecca Black] COVER TO COVER
Cover to Cover is a little feature where I post various covers of the same song back to back, so you can compare and contrast them like an 8th grade English essay. Since today is what they call here in America “Black Friday.” It only make sense to have a Cover to Cover of Rebecca Black’s Friday. I know right? We so excited.

Hotel California [ The Amazing Rabbis / Eagles ] 8 COVERED NIGHTS
Me thinks this is some foreign “the Voice” type TV show. Anyway, it fits in with my whole Jew covers thing I’m doing for Hanukkah. Kinda. Just a little.

You Get What You Give [ Savior Adore / New Radicals ]
I’d have to say never before has such a terrible one hit wonder been so universally loved that “You Get What You Give.” It’s terrible, but no one can quite tell you why. My only guess is the name checking of Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson comes of as a little deliberate, kinda like if I were to hashtag those two names in a tumblr post about the New Radicals.

I saw a shirt the other day that said “Started out with a kiss, How did it end up like this?” Now you might think this was an officially licensed piece of Killers’ merchandise, but no, it was a maternity shirt. Well I guess if you’re going to cover up that baby bump, might as well make it tacky.
Speaking of covers, here’s Boyce Avenue covering Mr. Brightside.

I surprised this song has yet to be co-opted to promote Angie’s List. Did you know no one could pay to be on Angie’s List? Just like you couldn’t pay to be on Schindler’s list, except completely selfish.

Royals [Post Modern Jukebox featuring Puddles Pity Party / Lordes ]
Okay Mad Lib time. I need a number, a occupation and a celebrity and the name of a song. Okay great we have a *7* foot tall *clown* who sings like *Tom Jones* singing *Royals.* Hilarious right? Sadly beautiful and hauntingly sad. That would have been my second guess.

One of the great things about the internet, besides the pornography, is the ability to find things that simply should not exist, like most of the pornography. The other thing that’s fun to find is simply random covers by seemingly random “lost” tracks by well known artists.
These tracks seem to fall into three categories. Behind door number one, you have tracks recorded before the band was famous. Behind door number two, is the “we never got around to finishing this song.” And behind door number three is “well I’m sure it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
To quote Ms. Piggy “Ozzy Osbourne?!? Boy, did I open the wrong door.” Mmm, I wonder what the Bee Gees’ think about this cover …

Okay, I’ll admit it. I wish I could sing like Brad Roberts, the former lead singer of The Crash Test Dummies. Gravelly, yet smooth. Like drinking a high shelf vodka when you just woke up hung over. Here’s his tongue, planted firmly in cheek, covering Kim Carnes.
