Fireflies [Alex Goot / Owl City]

From the Vault … March 25, 2011

I still have no idea who Alex Goot is. But his mutli-track covers were he’s every instrument and voice on the song is the bomb shniggity. Here’s his cover of Owl City’s Fireflies. Score!

Fireflies

I went searching the interwebs for a punk cover of a Lady Antebellum I had heard of. This is of course how I wound up with an R&B cover of Owl City the sounds like it was used in the concourse area of the Epcot Center's "The Land" attraction. You know the one with all the hydroponic gardens and the singing food cabaret thing? Too obscure?

Pushing forward, to be honest, I know nothing about Ahmir, other than they bill themselves as YouTube's most popular R&B band. I'm not sure what criteria they used to reach that conclusion ... it's like being the self proclaimed most handsome guy in chess club. They've got this cool pre-grunge Color Me Badd type vibe to them. I meant that as a compliment. No really, I swear. Their musical song book consists of covers of Beyonce, Train, Justin Beiber, Eminem and Miley Cyrus. Diversity at it's finest.

Pa-Pa-Polka Face

Today is Alfred Matthew Yankovic's 51st birthday (Wow, really? He's that old?) As a child of the 80's and 90's I must acknowledge this.

No, "Weird" Al Yankovic is not a cover artist. He does lots of polka medleys which would are covers, but for the most part he does parodies, or original songs. Just to be clear.

I was originally going to post Bohemian Polka as it's his only non-medley polka cover. But I stumbled upon some grainy concert footage which is allegedly the polka medley from his upcoming album. Even if it's not, it's still awesome.

Ladies and Gentleman, covering Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Flo Rida, Kid Cudi, Lady Antebellum, Justin Bieber, Pink, Katy Perry, Owl City, Jamie Foxx, Iyaz, Jay Sean, Taio Cruz, and Ke$ha, here is Polka Face.
