Drive [Deftones / Cars]
It is in this bloggers humble opinion that the Cars are the most underrated band since sliced bread. Wait … that makes no sense. But I’m down with that.

Let’s see, hot girls in tight outfits doing an acapella cover of song originally with male vocals … what more do you want? To bitch slap Nick Lachey? Yeah, well me too. But this season of The Sing Off is still young, and this here Bruno Mars cover by Delilah makes me with I could watch real TV and not just NetFlix. See them EMOTE!

Dubstep covered Acapella, in dutch. Sure … why the heck not? It’s just refreshing to hear Skrillex and not wonder if a pair of twenty year old fax machines are making sweet, sweet love.
So here’s Dario Fo Choir covering Skrillex.
Ladies can (and do) do acapella too. Can’t forget them in my week of acapella.
HomeFree is basicly … Oak Ridge Boys : the Next Generation featuring Howdy Doody at the helm. And that’s meant as a compliment. As the fourth in my week long series of Acapella covers, it really works.
Though they did miss the great opportunity to mash the song up with Honky Tonk Badunkadunk.
Risin’ up, back on the street. Did my time, took my chances with a third acapella cover in row. It’s like I’m doing a theme week or something.
How about an entire week of Acapella covers? I know you want it. You’re a good girl!

New Found Glory covering Sixpence None The Richer. What? Is there a rule I have to write something witty every blog post?
Can’t you taste this scone?
There, I posted it. No need to put it on my Facebook wall for the 345th time. Thank you!
I was all prepared to make fun of Sam Smith’s ridiculous hair cut, and then I heard him singing Fast Car and I was so blown away I forgot to do it.
Tuesday is Soylent Green day.
You can’t be blamed for not realizing the Great White song “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” was a cover song. The whole shark theme, the hair metal lyrics, the fact you weren’t born when the song came out. So here’s the original UnCovered version by Ian hunter.

I’m really surprised more women’s right’s groups weren’t up in arms about “Hit Me Baby (One More Time)” since it so clearly advocates punching women in the face. That’s not what it’s about? Then how come every time I hear it I want to punch Britney Spears in the face? Even when covered by Fountains of Wayne I want to punch Britney Spears in the face. Actually come to think about it, even when I don’t hear the song I want to punch Britney Spears in the face … who’s with me? Lets start a Facebook group or something.

It’s like 2010 Pop music got frisky and made babies with it’s self.
Lizzie Hale is the hottest woman in Rock right now. Also I can’t think of another woman in rock right now. Pop, yes. Rock, no.
A deep cover is a cover song, that’s so much more famous than the original, that the original is almost entirely forgotten. I figureed I’d showcase “Hanging On The Telephone” before you crazy kids almost entirely forget what a phonebooth is.
My songs know what you did in the dark. My songs know you were using a flashlight to read She-Hulk comics under the covers.
Too bad there isn’t a recent song called “Let Him Go” so we could cover all the bases.
From the Vault … July 8, 2011
True this cover lacks the dripping sexuality of the original INXS version, but COM’ON! It’s Me First and The Gimmie Gimmie who in my book can do no wrong.
I liked OkGo before they did music videos.

Slipknot … covered by Hanson?!?
Is this some kinda of April Fool’s gag? Oh … yes, kinda of course it totally is. In 2011 Hanson pulled one over on their fans leading them to believe they were releasing an entire album of Slipknot covers. As proof they offered grainy leaked cellphone video on YouTube of them covering “Wait and Bleed.”
Not the greatest audio quality here, but still … rubber duckin’ weird in an awesome kinda way.
I am completely oblivious to pop music. I thought this was a new song until stilrzgirl told me otherwise and then I felt like a tool.
Hey … is that that guy from Foo Fighters?

From the soundtrack to the upcoming Cars 2 soundtrack, here’s Weezer covering the Cars. See how clever Pixar was with picking songs for the soundtrack? Which really shouldn’t be any surprise since Cars was the worst movie Pixar has ever made. It’s like someone decided to reenact Doc Hollywood with Matchbox cars and then got someone drunk to buy the movie rights.
Rounding out the cartoon covers, is Third Eye Blind. And three is a magic number … oh wait, that was earlier this week.
Awww yeah, slow jamming out another entry in my week of Cartoon Covers. Here’s the gang at Postmodern Jukebox belting out a tribute to Yakko, Wakko and Dot.
This is the third in my week of Catroon Covers. Because Three is a Magic Number.
How about a week of nothing but cartoon covers? Sweet! Get it? Cause Mary Lou Lord and Semisonic are covering “Sugar, Sugar” which was originally done by the cartoon band the Archies. Sweet.

One thing that has always surprised me, is the sheer lack of Meat Loaf covers. With a career spanning over 30 years, I’ve never found any … until today.
Here’s Jamey Johnson, turning the Mr. Loaf’s classic into a syrupy, twangy boatload of Waylon Jennings-ish classic country. Download for free.
Gotta love a good gimmick/name on a tribute band. A reggae sounding Zeppelin tribute band, why it’s Dread Zeppelin! I can’t explain the Elvis impersonator lead singer though.
Why, when I was trying to think of an Irish band to cover for St. Patty’s Day, was the first band I thought of was House of Pain? And then the first cover I find of House of Pain is by Limp Bizket. Ahhh fuck I’m drinking green beer.

The editor in mt can’t decide if Coldplay is one word or two. Same with Yellowcard. If I’m wrong I will try to fix you.
To me it’s a tragedy how overlooked Queen is in the pantheon of rock and how not overlooked they are in the world of television commercials.
Cover to Cover is where I give you my loyal readers the chance to comapre and contrast two different versions of the same song, back to back, or cover to cover. It’s not meant to start a war, it’s meant to let you in.

Depeche Mode’s Stripped, on title alone it sounds promising, but in actuality is a pretty terrible song to erotically remove your clothing too. It’s hard to dance too, and that 80’s synth is kinda distracting. Rammstein’s cover of the song is much much better for the previously mentioned activity. Yeah, I can totally see some hot German goth type chick with a spiked collar hanging by her ankles from the stripper pole while … sorry. I got distracted.
First Friday of the month, means it’s another Me First Friday. Here the Gimmie Gimmies do their beautiful take on XTina’s Beautiful.
Shoshana Bean sounds like something you’d order at Chipolte. “Yes, I’ll have a Shoshana Bean Burrito please, hold the Guac.”

Some people might say that Poison covering Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack” is just a desperate attempt to stay relevant and appeal to the under 21 demographic. The counter argument is that bandanna Bret Micheal has had crazy glued to to his head for the past decade is some kind of mind control device that forced him to do it. I’m kidding of course. There is no other option than the first one.
Like all Blink-182 songs, this song is filled with lots of really deep sounding cliched meaningless metaphors. Whish is what makes it so deep.
No. Just no.
I never thought I’d get goosebumps by listening to a seven foot clown sing. Holy Crap. He should open and close with that song and do nothing in between.
If there’s ever been a president that was too drunk to fuck, it was Kennedy, maybe Clinton. Either way, Happy Presidents’ day bitches.
From The Vault … Feb. 18, 2011
What better way to celebrate Presidents’ day than with a mattress sale. Since I don’t sell matresses, here’s the next best thing, four presidential covers!
They say being President of the United States is the loneliest job on earth. So with that in mind here’s presidentially named Bush covering New Order’s In A Lonely Place.
More romantic songs leading up the the VD. Little known fact, the Zombie apocalypse will start with Peter Frampton’s death, because Frampton comes Alive!!! Side note, this video is the most 90’s thing ever. White guys in dreadlocks?!?
stilrzgirl, I love your way.
Mirrors [Steve Acho / Justin Timberlake]
Miiror Mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all? Why it’s stilrzgirl!
Allentown [John Mellencamp / Billy Joel]
Man, Johnny Cougar is looking old these days, Then again so is the piano man.
Love Song [Adele / Cure]
From the vault … March 18, 2011
One of the Cure’s most covered songs is “Love Song” or “Lovesong” as called to on some of their re-released / greatest hits albums. If the band can’t make up their mind what the song’s name is, how the hell do they expect the tags in my iTunes library to be immaculate? Rat Bastards. Anyway off her 21 album, here’s Adele’s soft sultry take on “Lovesong.”

Also Happy birthday to the most amazing woman I’ve ever met, stilrzgirl
Three Days [L7 with Waylon Jennings / Willie Nelson]
From the Vault … July 26, 2012
For money L7 was one of the most underrated bands of the grunge era. Me thinks it was because with a 100% female line up, they got lumped in with the Angry Cooter music with Alanis and Tori. Which is a shame because they were pretty kick ass.
Here they are with country legend Waylon Jennings covering Three Days from the Alt Rock Willie Nelson tribute album, Twisted Willie.
Free Fallin’ [John Mayer / Tom Petty]
I try really hard to dislike John Mayer. He comes off as a bit of a twat, but he makes great music so it confuses me. Anyway here he covering that guy who played the mayor in that Kevin Coster post-apocalyptic movie. No, not Water World. The other one. The one that didn’t suck as much, The Postman.
Take Me To Church [Postmodern Jukebox featuring Morgan James / Hozier]
Okay, you already know I’m totally in love with Postmodern Jukebox for their tongue in cheek throwback flavored covers. This cover, the tongue has been removed from the cheek, and it’s powerful and moving and slightly unexpected,
Lullabye (Good Night My Angel) [John Stamos / Billy Joel]
From the Vault … September 13, 2012
Every singer wants to be an actor, every actor wants to be a singer. The singer to actor works most of the time, the actor to singer not so much. Remember Eddie Murphy? Bruce Willis? William Fucking Shatner?!?
Anyway back in 2006 someone thought it’d be a good idea to get a bunch of actors together, including Xena and what’s-her-name-with-a-smile-like-a-velocoraptor from Alias and record a bunch of non-traditional lullabies. Surprisingly it didn’t suck. Here from his pre-Glee singing career is Uncle Jesse … I mean John Stamos covering Billy Joel.
Imagine [Scott Bakula / John Lennon]
From The Vault … January 19, 2012
If you must know two intimate quirky details about me, here they are:
1) I’m fairly indifferent on the Beatles. I don’t know why but they do nothing for me.
2) If I were ever to “go gay,” it would only be for one man, and that one man is Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. I might however consider a little bi-curiosity for Scott Bakula though.
So with that in mind, from season 3, episode 1 of Quantum Leap, here’s Sam Beckett covering Imagine.
What’s New Pussy Cat? [Mike Meyers / Burt Bacharach]
From Inside the Actors’ Recording Studio, here Mike Meyers (not the hockey mask guy, though he is Canadian).
Like A Hurricane [Adam Sandler / Neil Young]
I think everyone knows that Adam Sandler can sing. But did you know Adam Sandler can *sing*? Here inside the Actors Recording Studio is his very serious take on a Neil Young tune.
No One Knows When I’m Gone [Scarlett Johansson / Tom Waits]
Today from “Inside The Actors Recording Studio” is the second least popular Avenger covering Tom Waits. She actually did a whole album of Tom Waits covers and I’ll be darned if it ain’t slightly above mediocre.
Gold Dust Woman [Hole / Fleetwood Mac]
From The Vault … September 28, 2011
Ya Know for a chick who named her band after her late husband’s head, Courtney Love did pretty okay for herself … for a while. She was at the top of her game when this here Fleetwood Mac cover appeared on The Crow soundtrack.
Also did you know Courtney Love has an uncredited role in the Tim Robbins / John Cussack cult classic TapeHeads? She plays the hooker hitting by the senator with the ridding crop. Neat! Learn something new everyday. Also Weird Al is in the movie. And Ted Nugent. Possibly Kevin Bacon.
Take Me To Church [Ed Sheeran / Hozier]
Take me to church, there’s a bake sale and I want chocolate chip cookies.
Stairway to Heaven [Heart / Led Zeppelin]
Zep got all misty eyed hearing this cover as done by the ladies of Heart. BOOM! Winning the music industry.
Wish You Were Here [Catherine Wheel / Pink Floyd]
From the vault … Feb. 26, 2012
For some reason when the Rock ‘N Roll Hall Of Fame had an exhibit on “Women Who Rock” they totally overlooked Catherine Wheel. So here, as some matter of payback, is a Pink Floyd cover.
Chandelier [Postmodern Jukebox feat. Puddles Pity Party / Sia]
Postmodern Jukebox … while relatively unknown, still seems to show up in my Facebook feed on an almost daily basis. “Check out this version of (Insert song here) like you’ve never heard before!” So uhm … check out this version of Chandelier like you’ve never heard before.
My Generation [Hilary Duff / The Who] CRAPPY COVER
I search high and low for covers, don’t believe me? Here … this is low. This is a crappy cover. Say what you will about Ms. Duff’s singing ability, you can;t Disney-fy this song by inserting “don’t” into the line “Hope I die before I get old” and expect it to not suck. Unless of course the “not” youre using in the line was directly stolen from before the word “suck.”
Complicated [Dick Brave and the Back Beats / Avril Lavigne]
From the Vault … November 20, 2011
Rockabilly covering bubble gum punk? Sure why the hell not. Dick Brave and the Backbeats covering Avril.
All Along the Watch Tower [Jimi Hendrix / Bob Dylan] DEEP COVER
From the Vault … Nov 16, 2012
Hey new semi regular feature of the blog. The “Deep Cover.” What’s “Deep Cover?” you ask? You didn’t? Can we pretend? Okay great … “Deep Cover” is a cover song that’s so well known that the original version is all but lost to the sands of time, or more often than not mistaken for the original version by people less edumicated than I.
So the first “Deep Cover?” All Along The Watch Tower. It was Jimi Hendrix’s only Top 40 hit. It’s one of the greatest rock songs of all time. VH1 put it in it’s top 3, Rolling Stone put it at number 47, shockingly low if you ask me. Guitar World said it had the #5 greatest guitar solo of all time. And Total Guitar magazine called it the greatest cover song of all time.
The original was of course by Bob Dylan. And who doesn’t do a Dylan cover? The legend is that Dylan liked Hendrix’s version so much, it’s what prompted him to pick back up the electric guitar, which he had previously sworn off. I’m sure this set off all sorts of hippie protests. I can’t find anything to “verify” this on Wikipedia, so maybe not. Anyway Dylan did say about the Hendrix cover ”It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn’t think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day.”
Sure the song has been covered a billion times by a billion artists, but they all play it more in the style of Jimi than of the Dylan original. And yes, that now includes Dylan himself.
Hello [Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies / Lionel Richie]
It’s the first Friday of the year. So let’s say “Hello” to Me First Fridays for 2015.
Give It Away [Renee and Jeremy / Red Hot Chili Peppers]
Nothing is more disturbing to be than crude British stop motion children’s animation set to a song about a slut.
