Once bitten twice shy, great white, Ian hunter, cover, uncovered, covers, cover song, songs, coves, music, dj jazzy crut

Once Bitten Twice Shy [Great White / Ian Hunter] UnCovered

You can’t be blamed for not realizing the Great White song “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” was a cover song. The whole shark theme, the hair metal lyrics, the fact you weren’t born when the song came out. So here’s the original UnCovered version by Ian hunter.

Hit Me Baby (One More Time) [Fountains Of Wayne / Britney Spears]

From the Vault … July 27, 2012

I’m really surprised more women’s right’s groups weren’t up in arms about “Hit Me Baby (One More Time)” since it so clearly advocates punching women in the face. That’s not what it’s about? Then how come every time I hear it I want to punch Britney Spears in the face? Even when covered by Fountains of Wayne I want to punch Britney Spears in the face. Actually come to think about it, even when I don’t hear the song I want to punch Britney Spears in the face … who’s with me? Lets start a Facebook group or something.

Hanging on the Telephone, Blondie, Nerves, deep cover, cover song, songs, cover, covers, music, dj jazzy crut

Hanging On The Telephone [Blondie / Nerves] Deep Cover

A deep cover is a cover song, that’s so much more famous than the original, that the original is almost entirely forgotten. I figureed I’d showcase “Hanging On The Telephone” before you crazy kids almost entirely forget what a phonebooth is.

My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark [King The Kid / Fall Out Boy]

My songs know what you did in the dark. My songs know you were using a flashlight to read She-Hulk comics under the covers.

Never Tear Us Apart [Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies / INXS]

From the Vault … July 8, 2011

True this cover lacks the dripping sexuality of the original INXS version, but COM’ON! It’s Me First and The Gimmie Gimmie who in my book can do no wrong.

Wait And Bleed [Hanson / Slipknot]

From The Vault … June 14, 1012

Slipknot … covered by Hanson?!?

Is this some kinda of April Fool’s gag? Oh … yes, kinda of course it totally is. In 2011 Hanson pulled one over on their fans leading them to believe they were releasing an entire album of Slipknot covers. As proof they offered grainy leaked cellphone video on YouTube of them covering “Wait and Bleed.”

Not the greatest audio quality here, but still … rubber duckin’ weird in an awesome kinda way.

You Might Think [Weezer / Cars]

From the Vault … June 15, 2011

From the soundtrack to the upcoming Cars 2 soundtrack, here’s Weezer covering the Cars. See how clever Pixar was with picking songs for the soundtrack? Which really shouldn’t be any surprise since Cars was the worst movie Pixar has ever made. It’s like someone decided to reenact Doc Hollywood with Matchbox cars and then got someone drunk to buy the movie rights.

Sugar, Sugar [Mary Lou Lord & Semisonic / Archies]

How about a week of nothing but cartoon covers? Sweet! Get it? Cause Mary Lou Lord and Semisonic are covering “Sugar, Sugar” which was originally done by the cartoon band the Archies. Sweet.

Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad [Jamey Johnson / Meat Loaf]

From the Vault … Dec. 28, 2010

One thing that has always surprised me, is the sheer lack of Meat Loaf covers. With a career spanning over 30 years, I’ve never found any … until today.

Here’s Jamey Johnson, turning the Mr. Loaf’s classic into a syrupy, twangy boatload of Waylon Jennings-ish classic country. Download for free.

Black Dog [Dread Zeppelin / Led Zeppelin]

Gotta love a good gimmick/name on a tribute band. A reggae sounding Zeppelin tribute band, why it’s Dread Zeppelin! I can’t explain the Elvis impersonator lead singer though.

Jump Around [Limp Bizkit / House Of Pain] Crappy Cover

Why, when I was trying to think of an Irish band to cover for St. Patty’s Day, was the first band I thought of was House of Pain? And then the first cover I find of House of Pain is by Limp Bizket. Ahhh fuck I’m drinking green beer.

Somebody to Love [The New Victorians / Queen]

To me it’s a tragedy how overlooked Queen is in the pantheon of rock and how not overlooked they are in the world of television commercials.

Stripped, Rammstein, depeche mode, for the masses, cover song, song, cover, covers, songs, music, dj jazzy crut

Stripped [Rammstein / Depeche Mode]

From the vault …. May 28, 2011

Depeche Mode’s Stripped, on title alone it sounds promising, but in actuality is a pretty terrible song to erotically remove your clothing too. It’s hard to dance too, and that 80’s synth is kinda distracting. Rammstein’s cover of the song is much much better for the previously mentioned activity. Yeah, I can totally see some hot German goth type chick with a spiked collar hanging by her ankles from the stripper pole while … sorry. I got distracted.
