You’re So Vain [Marylin Manson Featuring Johnny Depp / Carly Simon]
Jessie’s Girl [Craig Robinson / Rick Springfield]
Yeah, that guy from that one show sang a song by that guy on that other show. Weird man.
Martha [Meatloaf / Tom Waits]
I can’t think of two artists on more opposite ends of the vocal spectrum than Mr. Loaf and Mr. Waits.
Here Without You [Tyler Ward & Madilyn Bailey / 3 Doors Down]
You know how when you miss someone and you’re all lonely and all you can do is think about them and masturbate? That’s what this song is about I think.
Sex is On Fire [The Rocker Covers / Kings of Leon]
If your sex is on fire, perhaps it’s time to contact all your former lovers and get that herpes test.
In a Big Country [Dashboard Confessional / Big Country]
From the Vault … Decemebr 5, 2012
In a Big Country, dreams stay with you … but for some reason the name of the bad that originally recorded this Dashboard Confessional cover didn’t stay with me. I had to search the internet. Apparently the band that originally recorded the song “In A Big Country” was in fact Big Country. So … thanks Wikipedia. *facepalm*
Call Me Maybe & Boyfriend [Ahmir / Carly Rae Jepsen & Justin Bieber]
From the Vault … August 14, 2012
I’m a lyrics guy. I love lyrics. It’s amazing to me when someone can take a trashy pop song, cover it in an entirely different music style, and turn it into something wonderful. That’s what Ahmir does here with not one, but two Top 40 songs. They turn “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen and “Boyfriend” by Justina Bieber into a slow Boyz II Men style, sweet love making, slow jam.
Pumped Up Kicks [Usher / Foster the People]
I’m not a fan of this song. I think because the original reminds me of Steely Dan and I fucking hate Steely Dan. I can’t be the only one.
Stay [The Mighty Oaks / Rhianna]
I’ve no idea who the Might Oaks are, but they sound very Mumfordy. Maybe a little Rod Stewarty.
Wrecking Ball [Ron Jeremy / Miley Cyrus] CRAPPY COVER
This is obviously done as a joke, I think. Maybe. It’s still a cover.
Clocks [Red Hot Chilli Pipers / Coldplay]
No, that’s not a typo. The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are a bagpipe band. And they’re really good. Then again, I’m not sure I’d know bad bagpipe music if I heard it.
Sexy and I Know It [Big Head Todd and the Monsters / LMFAO]
From The Vault … January 4, 2012
There are two musical certainties I present to you today …
1) LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” will be remembered in 2025 the exact same way we remember Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” here in 2012.
2) Todd Park Mohr, AKA Big Head Todd of Big Head Todd and The Monsters fame, could sing the Denny’s menu and make it sound like a blues classic.
So here’s Todd Park Mohr covering LFMAO.
Toxic [Chapin Sisters / Britney Spears] COVER TO COVER
From the Vault … Feb. 22, 2011
It’s time for another Cover to Cover. “Cover to Cover” is just that. Two (or more) cover versions of the same song, in one post. So that you can compare and contrast the similarities and differences in a three page essay. Taking on Britney Spears’ Toxic are two different groups.
The lighter side is the Chapin Sisters. Best known for being the daughters of Harry Chapin who aren’t Mary Chapin Carpenter, the girls have a light airy accoustic ballad-y take on the song.
And how fucking dare any of you make fun of Britney! Leave Britney Alone! Please! *sob*
Toxic [Static Lullaby / Britney Spears] COVER TO COVER
From the Vault … Feb. 22, 2011
It’s time for another Cover to Cover. “Cover to Cover” is just that. Two (or more) cover versions of the same song, in one post. So that you can compare and contrast the similarities and differences in a three page essay. Taking on Britney Spears’ Toxic are two different groups.
On the other side of the coin is Static Lullaby, from the Punk Goes Pop 2 CD. A heavy heavy version with toxic vocals. Awesome.
And how fucking dare any of you make fun of Britney! Leave Britney Alone! Please! *sob*
Daft Punk Medley [Pentatonix / Daft Punk]
Here’s the Sing Off’s biggest success covering electro-god daft punk. Also the blue hair on the chick does things for me I shant speak of in public.
Kiss Me Slowly [Michael Henry and Justin Robinett / Parachute]
So just the other day someone asks me how I keep up with music, if I never listen to the radio. Covers. If a song matters, and isn’t just another blip on the Pop 40 countdown, everyone starts covering it. So me thins these Parachute people are going to be big. Or were big. Hell I have no idea.
Crazy [Ray Lamontagne / Gnarls Barkley
I swore I had posted this song once before, but I can’t find it anywhere. I might be losing my mind. Does that make me crazy? Possibly.
Holy Diver [Killswtich Engage / Dio]
Dio has rocked for a long, long time. But now it’s time to pass the torch … to Killswitch Engage or Tenacious D or someone.
Float On [Ben Lee / Modest Mouse]
From the vault … November 21, 2010
This Modest Mouse cover comes from the soundtrack to the film John Tucker Must Die. Which apparently was a movie of some sort. The cover is by Ben Lee who apparently is an australian actor/musician of some sort. In 2008 Lee was nominated as PETA’s World’s Sexiest Vegetarian in 2008. However Lee admits he eats fish, so apparently he’s a vegetarian of some sort.
Cowboys From Hell [ Students Of Aaron O’Keefe / Pantera ]
Some times I wonder how badly the Justin Beiber’s and the Miley Cyrus’s are going to fuck up the next generation’s musical tastes. Then I see this and there’s hope for the future. Seven students ages 12 - 17 wail away on this Pantera cover.
Wicked Game [ Daughtry / Chris Issac]
Ladies … drop your panties.
Thriftshop [ Postmodern Jukebox / Mackelmore]
I’m gonna take your grandpa’s style … Hah! My grandpa’s style was 1940’s jazz, so there’s no way you’re going to take my grandpa’s style when you cover Thriftshop. What? What what?
All That The She Wants [ Wytches / Ace of Base]
The biggest sweddish export since Abba gets a Animals-esque 70’s bluesy make over courtesy of some high school drop outs (most likely, since they can’t even spell witches correctly).
My Humps [ Alanis Morissette / Fergie]
From the vault … March 4, 2011
You oughta know this cover as it was a YouTube flash in the pan a few years ago. Alanis Morissette (See what I did with that “you oughta know,” clever huh?) covered the Black Eyed Peas. I for one loved the video. She looked hot. Dave Coulier must be kicking himsel
Rodeohead [Hard N Phirm / Radiohead]
From The Vault … October 24, 2010
The artist: Hard ‘N Phirm. The mp3 I’ve embedded: possibly not “legal” version I found on the internet. The name of the song: RodeoHead.
For those lacking the power of deductive reasoning here, it’s a RadioHead medley, in a country western style. And it’s awesome.
