I'm Alive

Say what you want about American Idol, I will begrudgingly admit it has produced some fine talented people. Like Bikini girl from Season 8 and  . . . uhm . . . Randy Jackson.

Oh and David Cook. I liked him. He really didn't suck. He did this really nifty Neil Diamond Cover.

I'm a Believer

There a precious few bands that manage to successfully bridge the gap between tween girls and frat boys. Wait, did I say "manage?" that should have been "want." None the less, Smash Mouth for reasons entirely unknown to to everyone but societies mindless sheep, does just that, with mediocre party songs featured prominently in animated cartoons. Here they are covering the song Neil Diamond wrote, and the Monkees made famous, "I'm a Believer."

Who doesn't like a good Neil Diamond cover? One of my personal favorites, as done here by Jonathan Davis of Korn. It's the genre bending covers that do it for me sometimes.

Midnight Train to Georgia

First recorded by Cissy Houston, Midnight Train to Georgia is best known as the cover version done by Gladys Knight and the Pips. In fact it's so much associated with Ms. Knight she named her Atlanta Chicken and Waffle restaurant after it. See, I have learned something by watching Man vs. Food. 


"Midnight Train to Georgia" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and Rolling Stone ranked it #432 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. With a resume like that, it tends to get covered quite often. This take is not by Gladys Knight, but by the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Nominee and king of the Jews, Neil Diamond. It's off his album released yesterday called Dreams and he sang it Monday on the Today Show.
