We Are Going To Be Friends [Jack Johnson / White Stripes]
This cover was used on the soundtrack to the Curious George movie. The man with the yellow hat is so gullible. Don’t trust George, he takes advantage of you. Also I’m a Nigerian Prince.
Mysterious Ways [Snow Patrol/U2]
I used to think this song was about a magical orca. Shamu … in mysterious ways.
One Piece At A Time [Dan Bern / Johnny Cash]
Dan Bern is my secret man crush. Which means I guess it’s not a secret anymore.
Suspicious Minds [Fine Young Cannibals / Mark James]
I wonder what this guy’s speaking voice is like? You think it’s like that normally?
Ain’t No Sunshine [Hanson / Bill Withers]
You know, me from 1996 totally wants to kick me from 2014’s ass for posting anything by Hanson. But this cover is ..g… … go … goo … Not the worst thing in the world.
Dancing In The Dark [Tegan and Sara / Bruce Springsteen]
If old Brucifer was truly dancing in the dark, we never would have known he was dancing with Courtney Cox.
Brian Wilson [Brian Wilson / Barenaked Ladies]
From the vault … Nov., 13, 2010
Okay, let’s see if I can explain this in the most confusing way possible … It’s Brian Wilsoncovering Brian Wilson. Except he’s not singing a song he wrote, or even previously recorded, because that wouldn’t be a cover. He’s singing the Barenaked Ladies song, written about himself, the former Beach Boy, called Brian Wilson. I hope that at least slightly confused you, because if it didn’t I wasn’t doing my job.
Strange Fruit [UB40 / Billie Holiday]
This song was written by a communist about lynchings of black people. So it’s a happy song. Enjoy.
Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town [Cake / Johnny Darrell]
Mmmmm Cake.
Boom Boom [Big Head Todd and The Monsters / John Lee Hooker]
From the vault … March 19, 2011
I love Big Head Todd and the Monsters. They’ve got that jam band sound, without that holier than though mentality. Here they are covering John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom. Any one else hungry for Chili’s now?
Something I Can Never Have [Flyleaf / Nine Inch Nails]
From the vault … March 29, 2011
Some chick fronted Christian band covering Nine Inch Nails? Blasphemy! No wait, actually FlyLeaf does a pretty good job. Surprised me too.
Crazy For you [Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies / Madonna]
How did I miss that Me First and The Gimmies released a new album?!?I’m ashamed. So very ashamed. This punk supergroup is simply the best cover band out there today.BUY EVERYTHING THEY’VE EVER RECORDED!
Enter Sandman [Pat Boone / Metallica]
Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon’s fire
and of baked apple pie!
Life Is A Highway [Rascal Flatts / Tom Cochrane]
Cars was by far the worst Pixar movie. the plot was basically a rip of of Doc Hollywood. Remember that movie? No, well that’s how they got away with it. Micheal J Fox was in it? still no? okay. Well anyway this song was on the soundtrack to Cars.
Let It Go [Pearl Jam / Idina Menzel]
Well the Today show featured this … so … I guess I’m obligated too now.
The Beautiful Ones [My Brightest Diamond / Prince]
From the Vault … May 11, 2011
Back in the day when UnderCover with Crut was a real radio show (Okay, it was on an AM based on a college station but it was still real damnit), my boss man was known as the Shiv. He went on to work for a real radio station, WOXY. Long story short. I caught this little gem today via his FaceBook post. “My Brightest Diamond played live at WOXY in 2007 and did a cover of Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” that damn near made me cry in the studio. We were never legally allowed to post it for download. Grab it before Prince’s legal team takes down [the] site!”
Radioactive [Steve Acho / Imagine Dragons]
In this version, I don’t hear him talking about it being enough to make his sister moan.
Lithium [Polyphonic Spree / Nirvana]
Polyphonic means many sounds. Spree means a crappy type of candy. Here’s the Heaven’s Gate cult cover Nirvana.
All I Wanna Do (Is Make Love To You) [Halestorm/Heart]
From the vault … August 28, 2012
Covering Heart is difficult. Those Wilson sisters are hard to match for sheer intensity, especially Ann Wilson’s boombastic vocals. However Halestorm has a go at it and flippin’ nails it vocally and adds some staying extra crunchy in milk guitars. Take that you silly rabbit.
Hey Soul Sister [Alex Goot / Train]
from the vault … March 2, 2011
Who the hell is Alex Goot? I have no idea. He looks like a 15 year old “Weird” Al Yankovic. But he’s got some great covers including this one of Train.
Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter [Autopilot Off / Herman’s Hermits]
Mrs. Brown you’ve got a lovely daughter, No please don’t call the cops. I swear I’m not a child molester! The van is for work! That’s why there are no windows!
Aerials [Rob Callon / System of a Down]
This dude like plays the skeleton of a cello or something. also the word “cello” is weird. I want there to be an ‘H” in there somewhere.
I Write The Songs [Diesel / Bruce Johnson]
I blog the songs that other people sing, I blog the songs that are special and things.
Impulsive [Poole / Wilson Phillips]
Do you ever do something impulsive, like hook a car battery up to your nipples with jumper cables? Me either, Just asking for a friend.
Single Ladies [Sara Bareilles / Beyonce]
If you like it, then you should have put a ring on it. Wedding ring, or vibrating cock ring. Depending on the gender of the person you like.
